The Vitrines are a two-piece band from Southampton, comprising Alex Donovan and Billy Houghton. Their new single, 'You Give Me Chills' - due for release on May 28 - is the latest addition to their growing catalogue of releases.
Over the last couple of years the band's sound has been treading the boundary between indie-rock ('Something New') and post-punk ('To Come Close', 'Diamonds In Her Eyes'), and this latest track falls firmly into the latter category. If the band have been exploring and experimenting with the genres and seeking 'their' signature sound with each of their early releases, 'You Give Me Chills' feels like the moment where they've found the sweet spot and hit upon a style they can call their own.
With an insistent drumbeat to lay the foundation for catchy riffs and an overlay of crisp vocals, the fast-paced track powers through its two-and-a-half minute running time with hooks galore. It may be short, but it's a belter of a track.
The Vitrines are planning a three-date tour in the autumn (details below). On the evidence of the music they've released so far, these gigs should definitely be in your diary.
